Wednesday evening, the First Pitch Classic hosted by the Mercer Athletic Department was on full display and the speaker in the house was none other than Atlanta Braves star Dale Murphy.

Hundreds of Mercer student athletes, boosters and fans gathered to hear Murphy speak.
But first, Mercer head baseball coach Craig Gibson introduced the six senior leaders of the squad as the Bears open the season Friday on the road.
Of course, the hit of the night was Murphy whose fans made a big push to get the the 6'5" former back-to-back Major League MVP into the Baseball Hall of Fame this year, his last on the ballot.
Unfortunately, the effort fell short, but it didn't dampen the mood at the First Pitch Classic.
Mercer opens the baseball season Friday on the road in Sarasota versus Ohio State, St Johns and Notre Dame thru the weekend.
