MACON, Ga. (School Release) - The Mercer women's basketball team will be dancing in March after all as it found out that it earned a No. 1 seed in the Women's Basketball Invitational (WBI) Tournament late on Monday evening.
The Bears are slated to host No. 8 seeded McNeese State in the first round of the WBI Tournament this Thursday, March 21, at 7 p.m. at Hawkins Arena.
The WBI Tournament is in its fourth year of existence and features 16 teams from across the nation who will play in a single elimination tournament format sponsored by Sport Tours International, Inc.
McNeese State is a member of the Southland Conference and finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 16-14 overall record. The Cowgirls are making their third-straight postseason appearance after earning bids to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons by way of winning the Southland Conference Championship. McNeese State is led by senior twins Ashlyn and Caitlyn Baggett who rank first and second on the squad averaging 18.7 and 14.4 points per game, respectively.
