A week after the Mercer football team's first spring game, the Bears were back on the turf playing the role of coach.
Over 100 kids, between the ages of 5 and 12, showed up for the free football youth day. The campers were divided up by age and rotated through stations. Each stop focused on a different position.
"I like the way they break it up into age groups," explained parent Marc Mansfield. "They're letting each kid do each thing. So, if the kid is normally a lineman, he gets to do what the running backs do."
The kids were excited to work with the players, but the Bears also had fun teaching the campers.
"It's awesome," said running back Caleb Brown. "I've never had a chance to do this, but I remember coming to camps. I use to love it when people came out with a lot of energy and just have a lot of fun. I just love it."
Mercer opens the season on August 31 against Reinhardt.
