BRASELTON, Ga. (School Release) - The Mercer men's golf team joins nine conference opponents at The Legends Course of Chateau Elan this weekend for competition in the Atlantic Sun Championship. The three-day event is scheduled to begin Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
The Bears currently sport the third-best Golfweek Ranking in the field, coming in at No. 73 in the outlet's latest release of team collegiate rankings. North Florida boasts the league's highest ranking at No. 18, while Kennesaw State (52) and East Tennessee State (76) join Mercer and UNF in the top-100.
Mercer aims to capture the program's first A-Sun Championship and continue what has been a markedly successful 2012-13 campaign. In nine events, the Bears have posted six top-six placements, including a season-best third place finish at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic on October 16.
The Bears benefit from consistency in the lineup, as head coach Steve Bradley will play Hans Reimers, Trey Rule, James Beale, Jeffrey Heinicka and John Gregory Joseph for the fifth-straight event. All five players have competed in at least eight events during the academic year and have scoring averages of 75.2 or better.
Reimers enters the tournament as Mercer's hottest player, with top-10 finishes in three of his last four events. During that span, the Albany, Oregon native has posted six sub-par rounds and averaged 71.36 strokes per round.
Last season, Bradley led the Orange and Black to a sixth place finish in the A-Sun Championship. The Bears put together a three-day total of 914 in the event and were led by Beale, who tied for seventh individually.
Live scoring of the event will be provided by www.GolfStat.com beginning Sunday morning.
