MACON, Ga. - After having all of last week off due to final exams, the Mercer baseball team still managed to hold onto its No. 1 ranking in the most recent College Baseball Daily Top-25 Mid-Major Poll released on Monday morning.
Despite its idle week on the diamond, Mercer (36-12, 15-6 A-Sun) managed to clinch a spot in the upcoming 2013 Atlantic Sun Tournament for the eight-straight season under head coach Craig Gibson due to other results around the league.
The Orange and Black started the season ranked 25th in the poll and has been steadily moving up the charts all season long leading up to its third-straight week in the No. 1 spot. Mercer retained its No. 1 ranking in the poll this week by once again just barely beating out Big East power Louisville and Big 10 member Indiana who rank No. 2 and No. 3 in the rankings, respectively.
The Bears are one of three Atlantic Sun Conference teams in the CBD Mid-Major poll, joining No. 14 Florida Gulf Coast and North Florida who is currently in the receiving votes section.
Mercer is finally back in action when it welcomes Belmont to town for a two-game mid-week series beginning on May 7. First pitch on Tuesday evening is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Claude Smith Field.
