The Middle Georgia State College baseball team is catching fire at the right time of the season as the playoffs get started at the junior college level.
This past weekend, the 38-13 Warriors won the GCAA conference tournament title in Albany, over Darton College 5-4.
14 year head coach Craig Young says his team is loaded with 18 freshman that are helping spark a team with energy and big time play, which is perfect timing as the road "warriors" head to Tennessee for districts on Thursday.
"This group is just a loose group" says Young. "They enjoy playing together and it shows every time they step on the field. I think sometimes that inexperience can be a good thing for you too."
Former Rutland Hurricane Blake Shouse was recently selected as conference player of the year for the Warriors as their Third Baseman and closer agrees with his skipper.
"I try to lead by example. I try to work hard every day in practice. Hustle and show them what its like because I was a freshman last year and had some great sophomores teaching me. I try to lead by example and work hard every day."
Middle Georgia State has travelled to Tennessee for East Central District tournament action. Warriors first game is at 11 o'clock Thursday morning with Columbia State.
