Dalton Johnson, an AP student and standout golfer for the Mary Persons Bulldogs, is described by many as an easygoing old soul, but on the course, he's a fierce competitor.

"He's really matured a lot. I remember when he was in middle school. With that being said, I can't ever tell if he's having a bad day. He could be 2 over or 2 under but his demeanor is still the same," says Coach Ronnie Shipman.

Johnson says, "I just feel like I have a really good mindset, like I don't go out there worried. I get it from my grandpa. He's always told me not to get too excited or mad yourself. Stay even-keel and things will go your way."

As a junior, Dalton is one of the team's best golfers winning low ball at region championships with a 75.

"I've been playing since I've been 6 years old. First time I played, my grandpa brought me out to the driving range, and I've loved it ever since," says Johnson.

Loving the game and his AP workload in the classroom helps Dalton earn our 'Athlete of the Week' honors.

"He's doing everything he needs to do. That's his goal, is to go to the next level and play golf and hopefully make the tour one day," Shipman says.

And when Dalton makes it pro, his aim is not be like anyone else but Dalton.

"I don't really have a favorite golfer. I just play like myself."

And with the character of Dalton, that sounds like more than enough.
