MACON, Ga. (School Release) - After a thorough national search, Mercer women's basketball head coach Susie Gardner has announced the hire of Erica Ferguson as the team's director of basketball operations.
Ferguson duties at Mercer will include planning all team travel and meals, equipment management, coordinating on-campus recruiting activities for the program, assisting with the team's academic advisement, help coordinate all basketball camps and other day-to-day activities.
"We are thrilled to have Erica join our basketball program," Gardner said. "After talking to several applicants, we felt that Erica's experience at Central Missouri as a graduate assistant gave her the background that's needed to be a successful director of basketball operations here at Mercer. We like her energy and her enthusiasm and her desire to grow as a young coach in the profession."
Ferguson, 25, comes to Mercer from Central Missouri after a two-year stint as a women's basketball graduate assistant coach under Jennies head coach Dave Slifer. While at Central Missouri, Ferguson was in charge of the team's strength and conditioning, alumni/booster relations and nutrition programs. Ferguson was also responsible for team travel and meals, academic supervision, film exchange and summer camp scheduling.
Before beginning her career in coaching, Ferguson was a standout player at NAIA power William Jewell College from 2006-2010. All Ferguson did at William Jewell was lead the Cardinals to four-straight NAIA National Tournament Appearances and earn NAIA All-American honorable mention selections in 2008 and 2009. Ferguson finished her career at William Jewell ranking in the top-10 in program history in points (6th - 1,818), rebounds (4th - 804) and assists (9th - 253).
Ferguson graduated from William Jewell in 2010 with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Marketing before obtaining a master's degree in Sport and Athletic Business Administration from Central Missouri in 2013.
