LAURENS COUNTY - The Dudley Little League softball team is off to a fast start in its inaugural season.
They won the district tournament, defeating last year's state champion Western LL and perennial powerhouse Warner Robins to take the crown.
And head coach, Lance Smith thinks it wasn't just beginner's luck, either.
Most of these girls played travel ball together and have grown together as a family.
Their loss of practice time this week due to rain has been a problem but they've proven to be a resilient squad, despite the setbacks, even overcoming a 9-0 deficit in a tournament game.
"Our girls were just totally nervous, but once they settled down and got it done, we scored ten the last three innings and won the game," said Coach Lance Smith.
The team will be competing in the state tournament in Columbus on Saturday. The winner will represent Georgia at the Southeast Regionals.
