FORSYTH - Preseason High School football camp begins on July 25th and about a dozen football teams got together for a one day passing camp at Mary Persons this afternoon counting down the days to full pads.
Mary Persons Head Coach Brian Nelson invited 13 schools in addition to his own his squad to compete in 7 on 7 passing drills. The camp was held on the former campus of Monroe Academy in Forsyth. Ten teams battled across 5 divided fields, working on offensive and defensive strategies against the pass, getting ready for the season ahead.
Nelson explains, "The purpose for us is to give our kids a chance to compete and see some different looks as well as some different teams. We're also trying to get out of here and grow some cohesiveness and work on our team chemistry. Of course kids are getting after it. Anytime you put a football out here and keep score, kids are going to compete. I tell our kids all the time, if its worth playing then its work winning.
Putnam, Dublin and Dooly were a few of the other local teams present. There also was a school from Alabama in the mix as well as representation from south and north Georgia.
