MACON, GA-- For the first time in a few months, there were fans in Hawkins Arena again on the Mercer campus.  The Bears volleyball team held their annual Orange and Black scrimmage.

They were joined by two coaches who are use to being out on the turf:  head football coach Bobby Lamb and women's lacrosse coach Eve Levinson.

Mercer opened up the scrimmage to get fans excited about the up-coming season.  The Bears will start 2013 on the road at the UAB Invitational on August 30.

Head coach Damian Elder officiated the two sets, while Lamb and Levinson attempted to coach a new sport.

"I actually signaled in a few of our football plays," said Lamb.  "They were like, 'what's that?' Well when you see this, the tight end is suppose to catch the ball."

When that didn't work, Lamb and Levinson left it up to the players.

"Today was actually a good day to have two teams without me interfering, without some made up drill and just playing," said Elder.

Mercer's first home game is September 20 against East Tennessee State.
