MACON, Ga. - Mercer's Katy Harris was named the Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week on Wednesday after earning medalist honors in her college debut at the Eat a Peach Collegiate.
Harris' three-day total of 214 (-2) at Pine Lakes Golf Course outpaced 24 other competitors and was the tournament's only sub-par total.
Harris fired even-par rounds of 72 on both Friday and Saturday before capping the event with a 2-under 70 on Sunday. At the conclusion of play, Harris led the field in par three scoring (2.83), par four scoring (4.03) and birdies (9).
"It certainly must be very exciting for Katy to earn this honor in just her first official week of collegiate golf," Mercer head coach Gary Guyer said. "I'm proud of her and expect big things out of her in the future."
Her 214 was four strokes ahead of teammate and two-time Eat a Peach individual champion, Lacey Fears. Last year, Mercer snagged five different A-Sun Golfer of the Week awards. Fears earned the distinction three times while Sarah Louie Brown and Mary Alice Murphy were each selected once.
