Braves Acquire Reliever Scott Downs from Angels

The Atlanta Braves announced Monday that they've acquired Scott Downs, a veteran left-handed reliever, from the Anaheim Angels.

In return, they gave up Triple A right-hander Cory Rasmus, who made his major-league debut earlier this season. That's according to a Braves news release.

Downs, 37, has a career record of 36-35 with a 3.47 ERA over 12 major league seasons.

This year, he's 2-3 with a 1.84 ERA in 43 relief appearances.

That includes 29 consecutive scoreless appearances between May 5 and July 23.

Downs has never pitched in the postseason. That could change this season as the Braves hold an 8 1/2-game lead in the NL East heading into Monday's action.

Rasmus had an 8.10 ERA in three relief appearances for Atlanta this year. He went 3-1 with 14 saves and a 1.72 ERA in 37 games with Triple-A Gwinnett this season.

Rasmus was selected by the Braves in the 2006 draft. In seven minor league seasons, his record is 17-22, with a 3.61 ERA in 143 games, most of them in relief.
