It's the debut season of college football at Mercer University and the black and orange want to get a jump start on making "Bears" out of your kids during the hot summer months.
Thursday was the final day of Coach Bobby Lamb's "A Change in the Youths Skills Camp". The camp taughtkids ages 7-13 the basic fundamentals of the grid iron game. because the Mercer facilities are still under construction, the camp location was moved to the fields outside Central Baptist in Warner Robins, but that didn't stop these young athletes from working hard and learning the game of football.
Mercer Offensive line coach and Offensive Coordinator, Casey Vogt says the camp has a dual purpose. " We're trying to gain and just spread the name that Mercer does have football, we will be a 1-AA football playing school. And we're doing a youth camp here, we've got young kids age 5-12. And the kids have a great time, learn a little bit about football, teach them a little bit about character, how to be better people, and give them a chance to be exposed to football."
Starting Friday the Middle School Quarterback Camp starts, welcoming rising 6th thru 8th grade signal callers to the Mercer campus. And beginning this Sunday the high schoolers come aboard for the QB-Reciever and Offensive Linemen camp. All rising 8th graders thru senior year players are invited. There are still slots available. So you still have time to register.
