The swagger is returning back to the Georgia Southern football program. In as many years since Coach Jeff Monken's return to Statesboro along with the signature triple option attack, the Eagles have achieved above par success to the tune of 21 wins and 8 losses since 2010, but its still not good enough, according to assistant head coach, Mitch Ware."It's one of those deals where we get to the semifinals two years in a row and you're always falling short", says Ware. "We want to get to the last game."

But this season, the Eagles will have to replace three offensive lineman including All American Northside Alumn, Brett Moore as well as Georgia Tech transfer and quarterback Jaybo Shaw. The vacancy of Shaw, allows back ups Jerick McKinnon and Ezayi Youyoute to battle for the starting nod come next month which should be a close contest.

Ware who also doubles as the QB coach sees it this way, "Really seeing how the quarterbacks can handle a game and seeing how they handle things in camp and going into the season. Those guys out there expect to win and are very competetive in practice so I know they are looking forward to kickoff just like we (coaches)  are.

And as if Southern Conference play isn't tough enough, the Eagles plan to battle in state rival Georgia in November. "We were really proud of our guys last year the way they handled themselves at Alabama", says Ware. "They went in there not to survive but they were trying to win a football game and I thought they did a good job. Obviously we were disappointed that we didn't win and well handle it the same way when we head to Georgia."

And on the field Southern is represented by a host of Central Georgians, that are excited about this years opportunity for another conference champion and more. Ware explains, "Dion Stanley led us in tackles last year. Robert Brown has rushed for a thousand yards the last two years. Dorian Byrd started 29 games in two years at left tackle for us and Zach Johnson from Johnson County, tremendous contribution from all of those guys and were looking forward to it again."

    The Eagles open up at home against Jacksonville University, September 1st.
