Pro Football Hall of Fame tight end and Super-Bowl-winning coach Mike Ditka is scheduled to speak at a luncheon at Mercer University Aug. 28.
The event will be a part of game day festivities for the Mercer Bears' 2014 football season opener against Reinhardt at 7 p.m.
Ditka will serve as an honorary Mercer football team captain, according to a news release from the college.
Ditka is the first tight end ever elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame after playing 12 years with the Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. He coached for 14 years which included six NFC Central titles, three NFC championship appearances and the 1986 Super Bowl championship with the Bears.
"We are honored to host one of the greatest names in football here at Mercer University," Mercer Director of Athletics Jim Cole stated in a news release. "Mike Ditka has been an important figure in the NFL for years and will provide our student-athletes with great insights on the type of attitude and commitment that builds success."
Tickets for the event will go on sale through the Mercer ticket office starting Monday, July 28. Tables with seating for 10 people are priced at $1,000 apiece while individual seats for the event are going for $125 each. Additional "Bronze" and "Silver" table sponsorship options are also available.
