Jenkins Leads Vandy Past Bulldogs

Athens, GA (Sports Network) - John Jenkins poured in 28 points to lead the Vanderbilt Commodores to a 61-52 triumph over the Georgia Bulldogs in a Southeastern Conference matchup at Stegeman Coliseum.

Jeffery Taylor scored 13 as well for Vanderbilt (19-8, 8-4 SEC) which has won three of its last four.

Gerald Robinson scored 19 points and collected four steals for Georgia (12-14, 3-9) which has now lost consecutive games for the second time this month.

Georgia managed to take the 29-28 lead into the half by shooting 47.6 percent from the floor while holding Vanderbilt to just six field goals on 28.6 percent shooting in the first twenty minutes. The Commodores kept it close with a 12-6 advantage from beyond the arc and a 12-7 edge from the free throw line.

Vanderbilt was much better offensively in the second half shooting a solid 57.9 percent from the floor including 6-of-9 from three point range. The Commodores also tightened up on defense and limited Georgia to just 29.4 percent shooting including a dismal 1-of-17 from three point range.

Georgia was just 3-of-23 from long distance in the losing effort.
