Stratham, NH (Sports Network) - All three stroke-play medalists made it out of
the first round of match play at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship.
Shintaro Ban, Jim Liu and Nicolas Echavarria were all easy winners Wednesday
in the round of 64, while U.S. Open sensation Beau Hossler also moved on.
Ban beat Hartej Gill, 4 & 3, while Liu had an even easier time in a 5 & 4 win
over Nicholas Crozier. Echavarria won the last two holes of his match with
Jacob Ross, getting a birdie then a par for a 2-up victory.
The three players shared medalist honors on Tuesday after finishing 36 holes
of stroke play with 3-under 141s at The Golf Club of New England.
Hossler, who contended at Olympic Club last month, beat Sean Smothers 4 & 2 on
Wednesday.
The second and third rounds of match play are Thursday with the quarterfinals
and semifinals on tap for Friday and the 36-hole final set for Saturday.
