Athlete of the Week: Allie Parkerson

Athlete of the Week: Allie Parkerson

First Presbyterian's softball team is getting ready to make another run at a state championship.

They won one in 2007 and finished third in the state for the last three seasons.

One leader on their team is batting 1,000 when it comes to the classroom and her future.

Allie Parkerson is our "Athlete of the Week."

The FPD coaching staff doesn't have to preach perfection to senior Allie Parkerson.

“I just try to catch and do my part in the box," she explained.

That part is pretty hefty.

Parkerson has a .600 batting average.

If the season ended today, it would rank as the highest in Viking history.

She's also smacked 14 home runs. Those numbers have not gone unnoticed.

“I'm going to West Georgia on a softball scholarship, so that's pretty nice up in Carrollton," she said. " I'm really excited about it and can't wait to get up there.”

Softball is great, but Parkerson's gained prominence in the classroom.

She carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average.

“I wouldn't say a ‘B’ is unacceptable, but I'm just saying if I'm not making 'A's, I'm not giving it my best shot at just school in general, so I try to make 'A's,” said Parkerson.

Don't think it's a breeze maintaining those top scores.

“I don't really like English. It's just one of those I have to work harder at," she admitted.  "I think in college I want to study mathematics.”

In her tenure, the Vikings have gone deep in the playoffs, but they stumbled a bit and recently lost the region to GMC.

That gives them a number three seed going into the State tournament.

“Obviously, we want to get a state championship, and I really think that's a goal we can accomplish this year we as a team.”

The State Tournament gets going next Wednesday and Thursday, and you can bet Parkerson will aim for perfection.

FPD will host Holy Innocents in a best-of-three game series next Wednesday and Thursday.

Prior to the loss to GMC Prep, FPD had won 17 straight games.
