A new rule in GHSA sports gave teams an option.
They could have ten days of spring football practice to get the team ready, or they could play in two preseason scrimmages.
East Laurens coach Gary Morton and his staff chose the scrimmage option, but the weather had other plans.
The Falcons were supposed to scrimmage Montgomery County on August 8th, but the gane was rained out after a handful of plays from scrimmage. Now, East Laurens has one scrimmage remaining to prepare for the season.
Their last season was one they'll want to improve upon. The Falcons went 1-9 with some big losses throughout the year. Coach Morton wasn't happy the Falcons traded in two weeks of spring practices for one preseason scrimmage, but East Laurens still has one more scrimmage to look forward to, before kicking off in a couple weeks.
"We really needed that game," Morgan said. "We're going to make the best of the hand we were dealt. We're going to prepare for Wheeler. Hopefully, we can get some good film work with our kids against another opponent this Friday night."
The Falcons scrimmage Wheeler on August 15th, and start the regular season at home against Taylor County two weeks later.
