Names UGA fans should listen for during the early signing period

WXIA Breaking News

Early signing day is here.

For the first time, high school football athletes can sign their National Letter of Intent, binding them to a college program for at least one year and ending their recruitment.

While other sports have been able to participate in early signing, football players have been forced to wait until February. That date is still there as an option, but many of the top prospects will be announcing their commitments and signing their letters on Wednesday. The early period lasts from Dec. 20-22.

Georgia has 18 verbal commitments for the Class of 2018. Many of them will sign on Wednesday, and they may gain even more commitments from three, four and five star recruits. They could catapult from Rivals' No. 3 class to No. 1 depending on how it all goes.

Here are some of the names to watch for on Wednesday. Some of the announcements and signings will be live streamed on 11Alive.com. To watch, click here.

Jamaree Salyer

Salyer is a 5-star offensive lineman from Pace Academy. He is the No. 1 offensive lineman in the country, according to Rivals. Clemson and Georgia are believed to be his top two choices, and he recently visited Georgia, which is a very good sign. UGA already has four 5-star athletes committed. Salyer would be a big addition. Salyer will commit at 10 a.m.

Brenton Cox

Four-star defensive end Brenton Cox is another uncommitted athlete who could sign with Georgia on Wednesday. Georgia and Alabama are said to be Cox's top choices. Cox is the No. 2 defensive end in the country, according to Rivals. He played at Stockbridge High School. Cox had 23 sacks and 117 tackles his junior and season season combined, according to MaxPreps. Cox will announce his decision at 3:15 p.m.

Cade Mays

Mays is a Tennessee legacy, but it is believed he will choose between Georgia and Clemson. Mays is from Knoxville. The 5-star offensive lineman will announce his decision at 2:30 p.m. on ESPNU.

Micah Parsons

Parsons isn't expected to sign with the Bulldogs, but he did take an official visit there last week. The 5-star defensive end out of Pennsylvania ranks No.1 at his position, according to Rivals. Nebraska, Oklahoma and Penn State are believed to have better chances than Georgia, but he was posing with Justin Fields in a Georgia uniform this week. So he's one to keep your eye on.

Those already committed

There's not expected to be any drama surrounding these commits, but you never know. Justin Fields, the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the country, will sign to Georgia at noon at Harrison High School. Running back Zamir White will sign with the Bulldogs at 10 a.m., and defensive end Adam Anderson from Rome will sign at 12:30 p.m. All are 5-star recruits.

Five-star running back James Cook could sign on Wednesday. Cook, the younger brother to NFL running back Dalvin Cook, is committed to Georgia, however he recently took an official visit to Florida State. But he is still expected to sign with the Bulldogs, according to UGASports.com.
