Toronto (Sports Network) -- A news report on a Toronto newspaper website said the Atlanta Thrashers have been sold to a group intending to move the franchise to Winnipeg, but team and NHL officials denied a deal was set.
Thrashers President Don Waddell said he is still negotiating with one bidder that wants to keep the team in Atlanta, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
According to the Toronto Globe and Mail website, the Atlanta Spirit -- the group which owns the Thrashers -- has agreed to sell the team to True North Sports and Entertainment, which wants to put a team in Winnipeg. True North also denied a deal was complete as of Thursday night.
