Demaryius Thomas's West Laurens football camp was part of an amazing sports weekend for one central Georgia boy.
Damien Johnson is from Rentz, Ga., in Laurens County. Dublin hosted a special basketball game for Damien Friday night. Johnson then met his hero, Demaryius Thomas, Saturday morning. After that, Rooms From the Heart, from Macon, decked Damien's room out in sports gear Saturday night.
The reason for the big weekend?
Damien is an eight year-old who was diagnosed with RMS ( short for Rhabdomyosarcoma), a type of muscular cancer, last year.
He's looked up to Demaryius for years, mostly because they play the same position on the football field.
He's a wide receiver and I was a wide receiver," explains Damien. "This was my first time seeing him in person."
Thomas extended encouragement to the young camper.
"It was tough to see a little man in that situation. I told him to keep fighting," Thomas said. "He is very strong to be out here. I have a wonderful privelege to say I'm one of his best players."
