Georgia all-stars come back for regional win

A three inning North Carolina third inning could have buried Georgia.

The little league All-Stars found themselves in a contest that they hadn't planned to play in, anyway. Peachtree City beat them in the state championship a couple weeks ago. Columbus thought their run was over, until the league disqualified the original champions due to a violation of little league regulations.

So, there they were. a three-run home run off the bat of North Carolina's Davis Latham had Georgia down by a lot in a hurry. The team that shouldn't have been there, could have lost.

Instead, the Columbus, Ga., All-Stars decided they belonged.

Tyler Watkins doubled in the fourth inning. That shot brought in a run and had Georgia within two.

Then, North Carolina's three-run third inning began to look small.

An RBI double from Jagger smith led to three Georgia runs, tying the game in the fifth. Watkins scored on the next play thanks to a North Carolina error.

Georgia kept North Carolina down for the final half inning, and won by a 5-4 margin.

Suddenly, Georgia's runners-up look like they deserve a spot among the rest of the Southeast Regional's state champions.
