It is Final Four week in GISA basketball. The Mount de Sales boys basketball team is headed to Georgia College on the heels of an incredible win over Bulloch, that went five overtimes, and included a laundry list of huge plays for Scott Wynn's team.
The fireworks started at the end of regulation, when Thomas Matthews hit a three-pointer at the buzzer that tied it up at 52 and sent the game to overtime.
In the second OT Mount de Sales came back from a six-point deficit in the final minute to tie it up at 68-68 on a Christian Dickey putback.
There was some controversy in the third overtime. Bulloch got a steal that led to a layup in the closing seconds, but the referees waved it off, saying the Bulloch player did not get the shot off in time.
With the Cavaliers down two in the closing seconds of the fifth overtime Ken Jones drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer that finall broke the tie. Mount de Sales won 80-79 after 20 extra minutes. It was their third multiple-OT game of the year, and by far teh biggest, as the Cavs remain one of the last four teams standing.
"There's no quit in this group of kids," Wynn said. "They will never back down. They will never quit. What we did in the region tournament, battling back from a 23-point deficit at one point against Griffin, and then this five overtime game, they're not gonna quit
"That's the one thing I won't worry about when we get to Milledgeville, is them ever giving up and quitting. Even when there's less than a minute and we're down six we still find a way to keep battling."
Mount de Sales plays Region 2-AAA rival Griffin Thursday at 7:00 p.m. folowed by Mt. Vernon and Bethesday in the other semifinal.
