It's their summer break from school, but that doesn't stop this group of young student athletes from keeping busy.
In only their second year on the track and field, the Warner Robins Impala AAU track team is lapping the competition.
Led by former Air Force track and bobsled team member, Coach Hoy Thurman III, the Impalas are preparing for the national qualifiers in Douglassville this weekend at New Manchester High School.
One impressive note about this bunch,19 out of the 22 team members have qualified to compete and the Impalas say they are ready to put on a show.
Coach Hoy Thurman agrees but wants his squad to focus on the little things. He says, "The biggest thing with our program is to get all the children to remember is that it's your lane, your place, your time. Do the best that you can do when competing. It's all about self improvement. Not so worried about where you place at in an event, but how well did you improve? Did you get faster? Did you go further? That's the biggest thing we try to emphasize with our program right now."
The national meet is July 28th in Texas and just before that, Georgia State Games occur on July 22nd. A very busy time of the season for the Impalas.
