Macon RBI Gives Kids Chance to Play at Professional Ballpark by Heading to SunTrust Park

Macon RBI is Heading to SunTrust Park

Its the dream of a lifetime for many school aged kids to suit up and play professional baseball. But for one group of Central Georgia student athletes, half of that dream comes true as they get a chance to at least play in Sun Trust Park , home of the Braves, this weekend.

Reviving baseball in the inner cities or Macon RBI is an international program, serving in 200 cities worldwide including right here in the mid state. This league is designed to give under privileged minorities a chance to play the game on the diamond. Baseball for boys and softball for the young ladies and the players are relishing the opportunity.

This weekend, Macon RBI is heading to Atlanta for a national southeastern tournament for both softball and baseball, a first time opportunity for many on the team.

"It's incredible. This tournament means a lot to the girls and boys. A lot of them have never been outside of Macon so for them to participate in the opening festivities at SunTrust Park is amazing, " said RBI Administrator Jeff Batcher.

At least 30 All stars from the Macon League consisting of preteens and teenagers under 18 will join more than 25 teams from Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, south Carolina and northern Florida for a chance to play in the MLB RBI championship game which will be played in the host stadium of the actual World Series, but playing the game they love is what really means the most.

"Cause every year you know its different teams and its pushing us to play on the college level and that's what I'm looking forward to," Westside sophomore Kristen Gilbert.

This is the third year of the program and a big boost for the future of baseball and softball in Central Georgia.

The team is still looking for some help for travel and lodging expenses and you can help them out. To donate you can text RBI 717-77 or go to www.unitedwaycg.org and place RBI in the memo space.
