(Sports Network) - The starter formerly known as Fausto Carmona makes his season debut this evening when the Cleveland Indians continue a three-game set with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

Roberto Hernandez, who played the first six years of his career under the identity of Carmona, was arrested on Jan. 19 outside the United States consulate in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, after it was discovered that he had been pitching under a false name.

The charges were later dropped in exchange for community service, and Hernandez returned to the U.S. with a new visa on July 21.

Major League Baseball hit Hernandez with a three-week suspension, but that is now complete, and he became eligible to be reinstated from the restricted list on Saturday.

"I want to forget the past," Hernandez said. "I want to work hard and help my team on the field."

Hernandez was Cleveland's Opening Day starter a year ago, but struggled to a 7-15 mark to go along with a 5.25 ERA. He has never lived up to his remarkable campaign of 2007 when he went 19-8 with a 3.06 ERA.

The Angels, meanwhile, will counter with righty Ervin Santana, who will looking for some revenge on an Indians team that battered him the last time he faced them. Santana failed to get out of the second inning back on July 4, allowing eight runs in just 1 1/3 frames. He is only 1-8 lifetime versus the Indians, but that one win of course, was a no-hitter last season.

Santana is 5-10 with a 5.82 ERA this year, but hasn't received a decision his last two times out.

Los Angeles evened this series at a game apiece on Tuesday, as Albert Pujols homered and knocked in four runs to lead the Angels to a 9-6 win.

Torii Hunter, Erick Aybar and Chris Iannetta added a pair of hits and an RBI apiece for the Angels, who snapped a three-game slide. Ernesto Frieri worked a perfect ninth to earn his 14th save of the year.

Zack Greinke (1-1) allowed four runs on eight hits and a walk to earn his first win as a member of the Angels. He had been 0-1 in three starts since being dealt to the team from Milwaukee on July 27.

"I didn't worry about their hitters tonight. I just pitched to where my strengths are," Greinke said. "I'm glad I was able to pitch one of my normal games."

Michael Brantley had three hits, including a home run, two RBI and three runs scored for Cleveland, which lost for only the third time in its last seven games.

Ubaldo Jimenez (9-12) surrendered a career high-tying eight runs on eight hits and two walks over four innings to take the loss.

Cleveland has won five of eight from the Angels this season.
