Milwaukee, WI (Sports Network) - The Milwaukee Brewers have signed outfielder
Carlos Gomez to a three-year contract extension through the 2016 season.
The two sides had previously come to terms on a one-year deal in January to
avoid arbitration.
Gomez hit .260 and slugged a career-best 19 home runs along with 19 doubles,
51 RBI and 37 stolen bases in 137 games for Milwaukee last season.
"We are happy that Carlos has decided to remain a Brewer for a number of
years," Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said. "He has always had the
physical skills, and his recent performance has given us the confidence that
he will take the next step in becoming one of the top center fielders in the
game. His energy, speed and aggressive style of play is a perfect fit for Ron
Roenicke's style of managing."
In a six-year MLB career, the native of the Dominican Republic is a .247
hitter with 44 homers and 198 RBI in 676 games for the Mets, Twins and
Brewers.
