Cornelius, NC (Sports Network) - Sprint Cup Series driver David Reutimann will
not return to Michael Waltrip Racing for the 2012 season, the team announced
on Thursday.
Reutimann is currently behind the wheel of the No.00 Toyota for MWR. He has
driven for the team since 2007. Reutimann has also given the racing
organization its first two wins in NASCAR's premier series (Charlotte in May
2009 and Chicagoland in July 2010).
"David has been a significant part of Michael Waltrip Racing since the very
beginning and will forever be a part of our heritage," team co-owner Michael
Waltrip said in a statement. "We want to thank David for his contribution to
our growth and success over the past five years and wish him well in the
future."
Reutimann is presently 28th in Sprint Cup points, with just two top-10
finishes so far this season.
Mark Martin is expected to drive the No.00 car in a part-time Sprint Cup
schedule next year. MWR has scheduled a press conference for Friday morning at
Texas Motor Speedway, the site of this weekend's races in all three of NASCAR
national touring series.
Waltrip will likely drive the No.00 car in all four restrictor-plate races
(two at Daytona and two at Talladega) next season.
