Cambridge. MA (Sports Network) - Laurent Rivard netted 16 points and collected
three steals in leading the Harvard Crimson to a 71-60 victory over Cornell in
Ivy League action from Lavietes Pavilion.
Kyle Casey added 13 for Harvard (19-2, 5-0 Ivy League) which has now won seven
straight and remains undefeated in conference play.
Jonathan Gray scored 14 for Cornell (7-12, 2-3) and was the only player in
double figures for the Big Red. Shonn Miller had nine points and a game-high
eight rebounds for Cornell which had won three of its previous five.
Harvard broke out to a 38-24 halftime lead by shooting 45.5 percent from the
floor and limiting Cornell to just 30.8 percent shooting in the opening
period. The Crimson also outscored the Big Red 15-6 from the free throw line
in the half.
In the second half Cornell was able to cut into Harvard's lead by improving
its shooting to 44.4 percent while the Crimson cooled to just 36.4 percent
from the field. However Cornell was never able to get closer than eight points
and Harvard again outscored the Big Red from the charity stripe (14-8) to
coast to the victory.
Harvard turned 15 Cornell turnovers into 21 points and outrebounded the Big
Red 34-30.
