Jacksonville, AL (Sports Network) - Patrick Miller scored 19 points and Kellen
Thornton and M.J. Rhett each recorded double-doubles as the Tennessee State
Tigers bested the Jacksonville State Gamecocks, 66-57, in an Ohio Valley
Conference battle at Pete Mathews Coliseum.
Miller nailed 12-of-16 shots from the free throw line, Thornton had 14 points
and 14 rebounds and Rhett had 10 points and 13 rebounds for Tennessee State
(9-7, 3-0 OVC) which had won three straight.
Jacksonville State (10-5, 2-2) was paced by Darion Rackley who scored 22
points while Tarvin Gaines added 17.
The Gamecocks led 26-24 at the end of the first half despite shooting just
28.0 percent from the field by outscoring Tennessee State 9-0 from beyond the
arc. The Tigers shot just 37.5 percent in the first 20 minutes.
In the second half the Tigers improved to 47.8 percent shooting and used an
18-10 edge from the free throw line to pull away for the win.
The Tigers had a 34-24 edge on points in the paint and a 47-28 advantage on
the boards.
