Macomb, IL (Sports Network) - Ceola Clark paced all scorers with 16 points as
the Western Illinois Leathernecks outlasted the IUPUI Jaguars, 57-53 in
overtime, in a Summit League showdown at Western Hall.
Terell Parks added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds for Western
Illinois (12-3, 5-0 Summit), which has won nine straight games. Adam Link
chipped in 10 points, while Jack Houpt grabbed 11 boards.
For IUPUI (6-13, 1-4), John Hart came off the bench to net 14 points, while
Sean Esposito and Greg Rice put up 11 and 10 points, respectively.
IUPUI shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, while Western Illinois
made just 28 percent of its attempts from the field, as the Jaguars got out to
a 28-16 lead at intermission.
The Leathernecks started the second half hot and took a 37-36 lead with just
over 10 minutes remaining in regulation. There was very little scoring down
the stretch, and with Western Illinois leading, 45-43, in the waning seconds,
Lyonell Gaines converted a layup for IUPUI to tie the game and force overtime.
In the extra session, Western Illinois took the lead on a Link bucket at the
3:42 mark, and it never surrendered that advantage for the rest of the
overtime period as it held on to win.
The Leathernecks won the rebounding battle, 40-35, and outscored the Jaguars
in the paint, 24-12.
