Las Cruces, NM (Sports Network) - Daniel Mullings tallied 22 points, seven
rebounds, and five assists as the New Mexico State Aggies used a second half
surge to take down the Texas State Bobcats, 78-67, in a Western Athletic
Conference showdown at the Pan American Center.
Sim Bhullar was a perfect 9-of-9 from the field on his way to 20 points for
NMSU (8-8, 2-2 WAC), which has won back-to-back games. Bandja Sy put up 16
points and 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
For Texas State (4-12, 0-4), Joel Wright had 17 points and seven rebounds, but
he also committed five turnovers. Deonte' Jones added 15 points from off the
bench for the Bobcats, who are losers of seven straight.
NMSU opened up a 10-point lead less than four minutes into the game, but the
teams went into intermission tied, 37-37. The Aggies outshot the Bobcats from
the field, 48 percent to 41.9 percent, but Texas State attempted six more
field goals than NMSU in the opening 20 minutes.
The Aggies responded well after the break, starting the second half on a 12-2
run to take another 10-point lead. Texas State brought its deficit to just
three, 68-65, with 4:13 to play, but it would get no closer.
NMSU won the rebounding battle, 36-25, and it outscored Texas State in the
paint by a 34-14 margin.
