Davis, CA (Sports Network) - Sama Taku finished with 20 points and eight
rebounds as the Pacific Tigers defeated the UC Davis Aggies, 74-64, in a Big
West Conference tilt at The Pavilion.
Travis Fulton added 13 points on 6-of-8 shooting from the floor for Pacific
(7-7, 1-1 Big West), which climbed back to the .500 mark with its second win
in three outings. Ross Rivera also got into the mix with 12 points in 19
minutes off the bench.
Corey Hawkins paced the Aggies (4-9, 0-2) by tallying 19 points on 5-of-7
shooting from the field. J.T. Adenrele scored 14 points and pulled down seven
boards while Josh Ritchart contributed 10 points and six rebounds for UC
Davis, which lost for the second time in a row.
The Aggies trailed for most of the first period, but Adenrele gave them a
24-23 lead with 1:24 left before the intermission with a dunk off of a Ryan
Sypkens assist. That would serve as the halftime score after neither side
managed to sink another shot before the break. Pacific's narrow deficit after
20 minutes was due to its 2-of-6 performance at the charity stripe.
The Tigers heated up to drain 62.5 percent of its field goal attempts in the
second stanza and their reserves outscored the UC Davis bench, 27-13, to lift
the visitors to the double-digit victory.
Turnovers played a big role in the outcome as the Aggies committed 18 miscues
which Pacific converted into 16 points. The Tigers lost the ball 13 times, but
UC Davis tallied only six points off of turnovers.
