Reno, NV (Sports Network) - Leonard Washington registered a double-double with
16 points and 13 rebounds as the Wyoming Cowboys delivered a 59-48 win over
the Nevada Wolf Pack in Mountain West Conference play at the Lawlor Events
Center.
Washington also handed out six assists, blocked four shots and made three
steals for the Cowboys (14-1, 1-1 MWC) as they bounced back from their first
loss of the season on Wednesday versus Boise State. Riley Grabau added 12
points as he converted 4-of-7 shots behind the 3-point line.
Nevada (9-7, 0-2) was paced by Deonte Burton with a game-high 23 points, while
Devonte Elliott and Jerry Evans accounted for 11 and 10 rebounds,
respectively, in the team's third straight setback.
Both teams had trouble shooting the ball in the first half, coming in at under
30 percent accuracy from the floor, yet even though Nevada came up empty on
eight tries beyond the arc in the frame, it still held a slim 20-17 advantage
at the break.
After making just 29.6 percent from the floor through the first 20 minutes,
the Pack turned around and converted a mere 28.6 percent in the second half,
allowing the Pokes to run away with the win. Wyoming connected on a staggering
68.2 percent from the floor in the frame.
Malik Story, who is second on the Wolf Pack in scoring with 15.3 ppg,
converted just 2-of-14 from the floor and finished with a mere six points
which means he has scored just 19 total points in the last three outings.
