Akron, OH (Sports Network) - Alex Abreu scored 15 points and handed out seven
assists as the Akron Zips used a late run to pull away from the Central
Michigan Chippewas at Rhodes Arena, 68-56, to stay perfect in Mid-American
Conference play.
Demetrius Treadwell shot 6-of-8 from the floor for 12 points for Akron (18-4,
9-0 MAC), which has won 14 games in a row, the longest streak for any Division
I team this season.
For CMU (9-13, 2-7), Kyle Randall shot 8-of-16 from the field with four 3-
pointers to pace all scorers with 22 points. The Chippewas extended their
season-long losing streak to five games.
Even though Akron outshot CMU from the field in the first half, 50 percent to
37.5 percent, it took just a 28-27 lead into intermission. The Chippewas kept
the game close by shooting 5-of-6 from the foul line, while the Zips went
without a free-throw attempt in the opening 20 minutes.
The game remained close for much of the second half with the teams exchanging
a handful of leads, but Akron sealed its fate by ripping off an 11-0 run in
the final two minutes.
Akron won the rebounding battle, 33-26.
