Edwardsville, IL (Sports Network) - Mark Yelovich and Kris Davis each finished
with 11 points to lead the SIU Edwardsville Cougars over the Murray State
Racers, 65-60, in an Ohio Valley Conference tilt at the Vadalabene Center.
For the Cougars (9-13, 5-7 OVC), Derian Shaffer added 10 points and Michael
Messer pulled down 11 rebounds.
Stacy Wilson and Isaiah Canaan each scored a game-high 20 points for the
Racers (18-6, 9-3), who snapped a three-game winning streak.
Murray State shot 48.1 percent from the field in the first half, as it went
into intermission with a slim lead, 30-28. It held SIUE to just 40.6 shooting
from the field in the half.
After the break, the Cougars barely improved from the field, shooting just
41.7 percent, but they outscored the Racers at the free-throw line, 15-8. The
Racers struggled with their shooting, making just 31.2 percent of their field
goal tries, including 2-of-11 from 3-point range. The Cougars took the lead
midway through the half and never trailed again, holding on for the victory.
The Cougars had a 21-7 edge in points off of turnovers. Murray State outscored
SIUE in the paint, 34-28.
