Fayetteville, AR (Sports Network) - BJ Young scored 18 points, including seven
in the game's final 29 seconds, to help lead the Arkansas Razorbacks to
a 73-71 triumph over the Missouri Tigers in SEC action at Bud Walton Arena.
Marshawn Powell poured in 24 points on 8-of-19 from the field for Arkansas
(16-9, 7-5 SEC), which has won four of five and extended their home record to
an astounding 15-1. Coty Clarke chipped in 13 points and seven rebounds in the
triumph.
For Missouri (18-7, 7-5), Keion Bell led all scorers with 25 points, shooting
9-of-11 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line before fouling out.
Earnest Ross tallied 16 points and nine rebounds, while Alex Oriakhi corralled
11 boards for the Tigers, who had won their previous two contests.
Both teams shot 11-of-30 from the field in the first half (.367), and even
though Arkansas made four 3-pointers to Missouri's one, the Tigers took a
33-29 lead into intermission after outscoring the Razorbacks at the foul line,
10-3.
The game remained tight throughout the second half, with Missouri taking a
four-point lead on a pair of Bell free throws with 34 seconds remaining. Young
then converted a traditional three-point play to bring Arkansas' deficit to
one. After a 1-of-2 trip for Tigers, Young had another three-point play with
19 seconds left to give Razorbacks the lead. Young added one more free throw
down the stretch, and Jabari Brown missed the potential game-winner 3-pointer
at the buzzer as Arkansas held on.
Missouri lost despite holding convincing advantages on the glass (47-31) and
at the free-throw line (23-14).
