Corvallis, OR (Sports Network) - Justin Cobbs scored 18 points to lead the
California Golden Bears over the Oregon State Beavers, 60-59, in a Pac-12
Conference matchup at the Gill Coliseum.
Cobbs knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and dished out five assists for Cal
(18-9, 10-5 Pac-12), which has won five in a row. Tyrone Wallace was the only
other Golden Bear to score in double-figures with 11 points while Allen Crabbe
was the team's leading rebounder with nine boards.
Joe Burton recorded 15 points, nine rebounds, seven assists and five steals
to stuff the stat sheet for the Beavers (13-15, 3-12). Devon Collier had 13
points and Roberto Nelson added 10 while Eric Moreland led the team with 14
rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. It was the third consecutive loss
for the Beavers.
The Golden Bears held the Beavers to 21.6 percent shooting from the field and
1-of-8 shooting from beyond the arc in the first half to take a 29-20 lead
into halftime. Cal went on a 15-0 run midway through the half.
In the second half Oregon State shot 57,1 percent from the floor and outscored
Cal 39-31 but despite late efforts the Beavers were unable to gain any lead in
the second half. Collier's free-throws with 43 seconds left cut their deficit
to one point with the score 60-59 but Ahmad Starks 3-point attempt in the
final seconds was no good.
The stretch by the Golden Bears in the first half helped lock up the game
early as they were able to hold on late.
