Buffalo, NY (Sports Network) - Billy Baron scored a game-high 23 points as the
Canisius Golden Griffins captured a 77-65 overtime win versus the Saint
Peter's Peacocks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action at the Koessler
Athletic Center.
Harold Washington added 22 points for Canisius (18-11, 11-6 MAAC), hitting all
three of his 3-point attempts, followed by Chris Manhertz and Isaac Sosa with
12 points apiece, the former clearing a game-high nine rebounds as the squad
won for the second time in the last three outings.
The Peacocks (9-19, 3-14) were led by Desi Washington with 18 points, although
he shot just 7-of-21 from the field, which included 4-of-12 on the perimeter.
Yvon Raymond responded with 16 points and eight rebounds, Darius Conley 14
points and five boards as the team bowed for the third time in four tries.
Saint Peter's led by as many as six points in the first half, shooting an
impressive 57.1 percent from the floor in the frame, but the visitors were
ahead by just a single point at the break, 29-28.
In the second half the hosts made good on an even 50 percent from the floor
and 4-of-5 on the perimeter, but it was Raymond who scored the most important
points through regulation as he tied the meeting at 61-61 with just over 19
seconds remaining.
In the overtime session the Griffs left no doubt as they converted both of
their 3-point tries and all six at the charity stripe to seal the win.
The Peacocks not only hurt themselves with 17 turnovers, they were also
outscored 16-4 at the free-throw line as well.
