Ithaca, NY (Sports Network) - Rafael Maia registered a double-double of 22
points and 13 rebounds as the Brown Bears coasted to an 84-65 rout of the
Cornell Big Red in an Ivy League tilt at Newman Arena.
Tucker Halpern also netted 22 points for Brown (11-14, 5-6 Ivy), which also
received 16 points and four assists from Matt Sullivan. Cedric Kuakumensah
made a huge impact on the defensive end with seven blocked shots as the Bears
picked up their second-straight decision after losing five of their previous
six.
Nolan Cressler paced Cornell (13-15, 5-6) with 22 points in the loss. Errick
Peck chipped in 13 points as the Big Red suffered their third setback in a
row.
The Bears closed out the first half on a 13-3 run to take a 43-31 lead into
the intermission. Brown shot 59.6 percent from the floor and outscored
Cornell, 16-8, in the paint in the opening 20 minutes to build the double-
digit advantage.
After being limited to 40 percent efficiency from the field in the first half,
the Big Red improved to connect on 53.8 percent of their field goal attempts
after the break. However, Brown managed to extend its lead by draining 6-of-15
from beyond the arc in the second stanza.
Brown enjoyed a 36-26 edge in the rebounding battle and scored 21 second
chance points to Cornell's total of 14.
