Berkeley, CA (Sports Network) - Chasson Randle finished with 20 points and
four assists as the Stanford Cardinal downed the California Golden Bears,
83-70, in a Pac-12 Conference matchup at Haas Pavilion.
Josh Huestis scored 18 points and blocked four shots for Stanford (18-13, 9-9
Pac-12) as it closed out its regular season with back-to-back wins. Aaron
Bright added 16 points and Dwight Powell contributed 11 points, six rebounds
and four assists.
Allen Crabbe and Justin Cobbs tallied 24 points each for Cal (20-10, 12-6),
which had its seven-game winning streak snapped. Cobbs also dealt out six
assists to go along with eight turnovers while David Kravish grabbed eight
rebounds.
After a tightly contested opening half, Stanford took a 34-31 lead into the
intermission. The Golden Bears trailed at the break despite hitting on 56
percent of their field goal tries in the first stanza. The Cardinal created
the slight difference on the scoreboard by connecting on 5-of-11 from 3-point
range.
Cal hit 44.4 percent of its field goal attempts and converted 13-of-14 at the
charity stripe in the second half, but it was not enough as the Cardinal
pulled away by making an even 50 percent of their shots from the floor and
draining 21-of-23 at the free-throw line.
Despite the loss, Cal held a 32-24 edge in the rebounding battle. Stanford
turned the hosts' 14 turnovers into 19 decisive points.
