Flowery Branch, GA (Sports Network) - The Atlanta Falcons released linebacker Lofa Tatupu on Wednesday.
The news comes a day after Falcons coach Mike Smith announced that Tatupu will miss the 2012 season with a pectoral injury.
The Falcons signed Tatupu in March. The former Seahawk did not play last season due to injury problems.
A three-time Pro Bowl selection, Tatupu helped Seattle reach the Super Bowl in 2005.
The Falcons also placed defensive tackle Corey Peters on the active, non- football injury list. They also announced that they have signed defensive tackle Elisha Joseph and wide receiver Tim Toone, and waived safety Chad Faulcon.
