Bangkok, Thailand (Sports Network) - Top seed Janko Tipsarevic moved in
the quarterfinals at the Thailand Open tennis event.
The world No. 9 Serbian star posted a 6-4, 6-4 second-round victory against
Japanese qualifier Hiroki Moriya on Wednesday on the hardcourts at Impact
Arena.
Tipsarevic was joined in the quarterfinals by seventh-seeded Finn and 2010
Bangkok runner-up Jarkko Nieminen, who got past German Philipp Petzschner 7-6
(7-1), 6-2 in Day 3's nightcap.
In some first-round action, former top-10 Frenchman Gael Monfils topped South
African qualifier Kevin Anderson 6-4, 2-6, 7-5, Japan's Go Soeda defeated wild
card and Thailand's own Danai Udomchoke 6-4, 7-5 and 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo
Karlovic bested Aussie Marinko Matosevic 6-3, 6-4.
In some more second-round play on Thursday, second-seeded Frenchman Richard
Gasquet will take on promising Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, third-seeded
Canadian slugger Milos Raonic will battle the towering Karlovic and fourth-
seeded Frenchman Gilles Simon will be opposed by Soeda. Simon captured this
event in 2009.
The 2012 winner of this $551,000 tournament will collect $99,465.
