Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (Sports Network) - Top-seeded David Ferrer led the
charge into the quarterfinals at the $850,000 Malaysian Open tennis event.
The world No. 5 Spanish star blew past Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr. 6-4, 6-2 on
the hardcourts at Putra Stadium.
Ferrer's quarterfinal opponent on Friday will be Dutchman Igor Sijsling, who
upset fifth-seeded Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-6 (7-0), 7-6 (7-2) on Day 4.
In other second-round action involving seeds, No. 2 Juan Monaco of Argentina
handled Taiwanese qualifier Jimmy Wang 6-4, 7-5, No. 3 Japanese Kei Nishikori
came from behind to beat Spaniard Albert Ramos 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 6-1, and
Colombian Alejandro Falla upended No. 4 Alexandr Dolgopolov of Ukraine 6-3,
3-6, 6-3.
The top-four seeds all received opening-round byes this week.
One other second-round affair saw former top-five Russian star Nikolay
Davydenko straight-set Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin 7-5, 6-4.
Friday's other quarterfinals will pit Monaco against Canadian Vasek Pospisil,
Nishikori versus the 2009 Kuala Lumpur champion Davydenko and seventh-seeded
Frenchman Julien Benneteau against Falla.
The winner of this $850,000 tournament will collect $153,400.
