Linz, Austria (Sports Network) - Victoria Azarenka earned her sixth title of
2012 with a straight-set win over Julia Goerges in the final of the Generali
Ladies Linz tournament.
The top-seeded Azarenka posted a 6-3, 6-4 triumph on Sunday for her second
straight title. The native of Belarus also won last week in Beijing and hasn't
dropped a set while winning 11 straight matches in that span.
Azarenka technically has a 13-match win streak, including two victories in
Tokyo before withdrawing from a quarterfinal match because of dizziness. She
has not lost a match since falling to Serena Williams in the final of the U.S.
Open last month.
Sunday's victory gave Azarenka her 14th career title. She also won in Indian
Wells, Doha, Sydney and at the Australian Open in addition to her two most
recent triumphs.
Azarenka improved to 14-11 all-time in finals, including 6-3 this year. She is
also 4-1 lifetime against Goerges.
Goerges, seeded fifth this week, fell to 2-3 in title matches. The German lost
the Dubai final to Agnieszka Radwanska in her lone title match of 2012 and
hasn't won a tournament since last year in Stuttgart.
