Isner advances in French Open

ATHENS, Ga. --- Former Georgia men's tennis standout John Isner used a 7-6(13), 7-6(3), 6-7(5), 7-5 win over No. 17 seed Tommy Robredo on Friday afternoon to advance to the fourth round of the French Open for the first time in his career. He had previously reached the third round three times.

Isner saved all 13 break points he faced on Friday to become the first American man to reach the round of 16 at Roland Garros since Robby Ginepri in 2010. The Greensboro, N.C., native will take on sixth-ranked Tomas Berdych on Sunday with a berth in the quarterfinals on the line. Berdych owns a 4-2 all-time record vs. Isner, including wins in the last two meetings.

Isner was a four-time All-American at UGA from 2004-07, and helped lead the Bulldogs to a perfect 32-0 record and a national title as a senior. He holds the school record for career singles (138), doubles (138), and combined (276) wins.
