Governor Nathan Deal and Agriculture Commissioner Gary Black signed an executive order prohibiting propane providers from price gouging.
In the statement. Governor Deal said the recent cold weather caused a spike in the demand for propane, saying quote "our families, farmers and small business are worried about getting the heat they need during times of frigid weather...They shouldn't have to worry about price gouging, and we aim to prevent that."
As severe winter weather has hit the nation, the price for propane has risen substantially in the past few days. Black says livestock and poultry farmers, along with food processing companies, depend on propane gas for their business. He says he and Deal are working with propane suppliers and agribusinesses to face the current challenges.
