The first day of class is inching closer, which means it's time for 13WMAZ's Operation Back to School.

This year, the Mary Persons softball team will jump on board to help kids gear up for the year.

The players say it's important to have the full line-up of back to school supplies.

Eighth-grader Alexis Passmore says, "It just helps you with individual subjects, like the right kind of paper helps you for what you need and it's how you can get through school."

That's why the team plans to step up to the plate and help out with Operation Back to School.

"It kind of just makes me proud to help because they might now know what to get and I'll just help them out to get to school and be successful in what they do," says Passmore.

On Thursday, 13WMAZ's employees will stack their coverage and stand out at Walmarts all across central Georgia.

Folks can pick up a few extra school supplies and toss them in the drop-off carts at the front of the stores between 11:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.

May Person's Kayla Pippin has high hopes for this years collection. She says, "I would expect at least a few baskets to overflow with stuff that they need."

Theplayers will be on deck at the Forsyth location to pitch ideas for donations.

All of the supplies will go to students in the county where they are collected.

13WMAZ's teams will be at the following Walmart locations:

Macon: Harrison Road, Gray Highway, Zebulon Road

Warner Robins: Watson Boulevard, Booth Road

Forsyth: North Lee Street

Perry:Saint Patrick's Drive
